Vegan Family Living has a goal of offering healthier alternatives to living!
In effort to do just that we are always researching and looking for great information to bring your way. After all no one knows it all. There is always somone who knows just a little more than you.
Through a comment right here on the Vegan Family Living site, I was able to speak with Joana Duran, a Registered Nurse and student studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. Joana is well informed in the area of nutrition and feeding the vegan child. She has agreed to become a contributer to the site and to the Vegan Family Recipe Ezine.
Joana R. Duran graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington. She completed her residency in pediatrics as the Children’s Hospital of Los Angles, where she continues to work as a Registered Nurse, delivering care to oncology patients requiring diagnostic workup, standard and investigational chemotherapy, and treatment of complications of therapy.
Joana is currently studying at UCLA to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. She is training with community-based clinics that provide primary care to low-income children and their families in the inner-city.
Joana is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and hopes to use her skills in reaching out to minority and underserved populations.
In her free time, Joana volunteers as a medical missionary, providing healthcare services and teaching to children and families in disadvantaged populations around the world. Joana’s research interest is the epidemic of childhood obesity. She has been involved in many research studies surrounding this issue, and hopes to pursue a PhD someday so she can research and teach about this topic in an effort to improve the health and nutritional status of children.
Joana will be the first guest speaker at the Naturally Healthy Vegan Seminar Series this month on June 20. For more information visit the Naturally Healthy Vegan Seminar Series page.
You can find Joana’s article about feeding the Vegan child under the Vegan Children category and if you have a question for her you can email her here. We will choose some of the questions and answers to appear in the Vegan Family Recipe Ezine.
