The Vegan Kitchen

The kitchen of a vegan or vegetarians may not quite look like yours. However, it does still offer the best in quality, nutritional food. Now why don’t we visit a vegetarian kitchen?
In the Cupboard:

In the cupboard of a vegetarian you will find most of what you would in the cabinet of a meat eater. Canned foods, seasonings, rice, oatmeal, cereal, and more will fill the shelves of most cupboards. The difference comes in when you get a little closer to the labels. Most of the labels will most likely say organic?, vegetarian?, vegan?, whole grain?, gluten free? or something healthy.

When a vegetarian or vegan shops they look for items that have no meat by-products, eggs (some vegetarians will buy products that contain egg whites). In most cupboards, you will also find plenty of canned or dried beans. Beans serve as a good meat substitute for many vegetarians. I always have beans in my cupboards.

Nutritional Yeast is also something you will find sitting on a shelf. It is so versatile in its uses and the nutritional value is fantastic. There will also be oils such as olive and coconut in the cupboards of most vegetarians.

In the Refrigerator
Most refrigerators carry items such as veggies, fruits, dressing, leftovers, frozen foods and more. Well once again it is no different for the vegetarian; it’s just that some items most likely have different contents.

Vegetables and fruits are the norm in most refrigerators everywhere. However, most vegetarians eat organic? and spend a little more for the items. You will find that the ratio of fresh vegetables to those of frozen is usually higher.

In our refrigerator we have butter too. However we use Soy Garden? which is a vegetarian alternative with no trans fat. It taste just like butter…no kidding. We also have items like soy milk, tofu, soy dogs, linkettes (a substitute for sausage) and homemade mayonnaise. You won’t see meat or a lot of frozen foods (other than veggies) because we don’t buy a lot of frozen foods.? I make most of our meals from scratch.

Two of the items I love from our freezer is tuno and Temptations? vegan ice cream. Tuno is a tuna substitute that I use in seafood salads and macaroni salad.? I am not very fond of the canned tuno. It had a bad taste to me.

For those of you who are lactose intolerant Temptations? is great. It is great, trust me, I am an ice cream lover. They have flavors such as peach cobbler?, mint chocolate chip?, vanilla?, green tea? and more.

Well, there you have it. Of course this is not a comprehensive list, but it gives you an idea. I have included some sites that will give you more information on some of the items mentioned on this article.
