Ginger Baked Beans w/ TVP
Written by LaTara Ham-Ying on January 31, 2007 at January 31st, 2007
One of my favorite bean dishes is bar-b-qued baked beans. My sister-in-law makes hers with ground turkey and people request them so much that she says she gets tired of cooking them. Of course once I married my husband I had to find an alternative to the gobble gobble. Oh, the wonders of TVP. You can read more about TVP by reading this Fact Sheet.
For a great dinner time treat that everyone will love try these Ginger Baked Beans
Ingredients:
5 cans of vegetarian Beans
2 green onions chopped
2 c of ground TVP
11/2 bottles of bar-b-que sauce (I use Uncle Ray¡¯s Hickory smoked)
3 Tbls of Brown Sugar
1/2 tbls of garlic powder (more give it a great taste)
1 1/2 tbls of ground ginger
1 1/2 c of water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Drain Beans. In a pot bring water and TVP to boil. Add 1/2 tsp of ginger,1/2 tsp of garlic powder, and about 1 cup of the sauce. Let cook for about 3 minutes and set aside. In pan of choice add beans and remaining ingredients. Add TVP and mix well. Cook for 20 minutes or until the beans begin to caramelize.
