From the Vegan Family Living Ezine - Vegan Q&A
How does one prove to the medical community that omnivores humans are the ones that are abnormal?
Submitted by C. Elkington
The first thing I would do is stop calling ominvores abnormal. One of the main issues within society is that fact that so many of us are ready to point a finger and make an accusation rather than taking the time to educate, learn, research, and grow. By doing so we are able to better understand our family, friends, and neighbors.
NO matter how much we know or don’t know, there is always someone who knows a little more than you. I think that if society paid attention to this fact then a lot of communication barriers would break down.
So instead of calling them abnormal, why not take the time to teach them with a little bit of compassion about your lifestyle and try to become a fly on the wall of their life as well. If they are not willing to learn, then chalk it up to ignorance or fear of the unknown and move on. But don’t stress over things you cannot change.
The good thing is that the medical field is fast becoming more educated on the subject of veganism. Many doctors and medical organizations such as the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine(PCRM) are now educating people on the vegetarian and vegan diet.
My husband and son are omnivores and I want to start to raise my son who is 17 months as a vegan as well. My husband is not very understanding and is using the uninformed argument that soya is linked with homosexuality. Do you have any advice on how to get him away from this thinking?

Again, as I stated in the previous question, the anwer here is education. Your husband is clearly misinformed on his assumption that soy is linked to homosexuality. I have never heard of such a thing. What you need to show your husband is the reasearch, proof, and information you have on a vegan diet.
I am not sure who your husband gets his information from but if I were him I would find a new source for gaining my knowledge in the area of soy and veganism. Your road may seem hard to travel with this situation but it is not impossible to conquer.

I think it’s probably ridiculous (the soy/gay thing), but it’s everywhere and I’ve read about it online many times. Googled it: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=soy+homosexuality&btnG=Google+Search
LaTara I’m sure you could do an awesome critique of the pseudoscience that is behind this.
