Earthday Finds

Tuesday Apr 22, 2008

Today instead of writing a long post about Earth Day, I thought it would be fun to let you hop the net and see what some of my friends are saying or doing for Earth Day. I am also sharing information about some really cool resources.

The Household Helper, Cara Mirabella is talking about Earth Day Resolutions. Her number one suggestion is to simply make the change and I couldn’t agree more. Over at the Skimbaco blog, she is sharing 10 Easy Ways to Save the Earth.

One of the best resources for learning to be more Earth Friendly is also Free. Ideal Bite shares information daily about Eco-friendly tips, resources, and products. This is one of the most innovative newsletters I have ever received; a truly enjoyable treat. Get your free, fun eco-living tips! Delivered daily via email!

If you have some items laying around your home that you need to get rid of because you no longer have a use for them, don’t trash ‘em and forget about the hassle of a garage sale; just freecycle them. Freecycle is a cool way to not only give your unwanted to someone who can use them. You can also find some very good items that others have no need for. Freecycle is free to join and it helps you to save the planet by recycling instead of trashing.

Chele Niesler, host of Moms Love Shopping, discusses Earth Friendly Shopping with Tiffany Washko, The Nature Mom.

A few weeks ago my friend, Gary Hillery from The Greenpath Company sent me a couple of t-shirts. I must say I was very pleased with the product. All of the products from the Greenpath Company are made with Organic Cotton and come with neat mottos. The shirts were very comfortable and the fit is great.

As for me here are some Earth Friendly Food tips I would like to share:

1. If you are a carnivore, make an effort to eat less meat. It helps the environment and your body will say thanks. As a matter of fact, you should try going vegan one or two days out of the week. You can locate some great tasting recipes right here at Vegan Family Living.

2. Make a compost pile of all your fruit and vegetable remains.

3. Buy organic and try to purchase from local farmers and markets.

4. Buy reusable shopping bags. This week at Walgreens they are on sale for $.99. You can also find reusable bags at Trader Joe’s, Target, and Wholefoods. And remember if you forget your bags tell the box boy paper and not plastic.

Have a Great Earth Day!

Thank you for linking to my post and thank you for great tips! I just joined Freecycle and it is such a great way to recycle old things.

How have you done the composting? We have a lot of wildlife here, so I’m afraid it wouldn’t work for us.
